Number of Books: No other apps have more Gutenberg books, and many competitors are missing some classic Gutenberg books.

Reading: Texts and images are presented by a sophisticated book reader: beautiful presentation, graceful page turning, and the most intelligent Table of Contents (better than any other book reader for the same book).

Listening: There are more than 6,000 human-read audio books. In addition. Full control through headset: pause, play, skip to next/previous track, forward/backward seeking.

Read-along: Audio and Text are synchronized when possible. You can read, listen, or read-Along, and switch between them at will.

Export: Export a book together with your bookmarks and the notes that you insert in the book to anyone and any device, or save it in google drive, one drive, or iCloud.

Pros and cons of Gutenberg Book Reader app for iPhone and iPad

Gutenberg Book Reader app good for

Have been using its free version for more than a year but finally decided that I can afford $0.99 to treat myself. Best investment ever in my life.
Having used its free version for more than a year, I finally decided to pay for it. So happy I can now listen to any book in the impressive Alex voice, almost sounds like human. Tys has come a long way!
Best for reading or listening to Gutenberg books. For $1.99 I get to use it for the last two years and I am sure many more years to come. Thank you developer for releasing so many new versions.
This little app is so easy to use. I typed in the search box beagle I immediately found Darwins beagle. It also recommended a list of audio books. I downloaded the text version. Then much to my surprise, I could listen to the text using a TTS voice, which I actually like. Now I am mixing reading and listening depending on my mood of the time. Simply amazing!

Some bad moments

It is so much easier to use Gutenberg now! Thank you developers for making this useful app!
It does work, but try to understand how. Lousy job, to download a book means immediately start reading it, forget to go back to the page from which you downloaded, it wont happen soon.
You can read with this, sometimes without annoyance. Issues: (1) If you dont open the app for a while (overnight), the app forgets the book you were reading and page you were on unless you manually save it. (2) Way too easy to swipe to new chapter when swiping to new page. (3) Often refuses to advance to next page when images are on current page. Generally does not handle images well. (4) When you download a book from Bookshelves, app takes you back to home page and you have to climb back through the menu choices to load another book. (5) Too easy to trigger icons, covering up text. None of these should be hard to fix.
waste of a buck. pointless, poorly programmed, poorly designed. just go download what you need from the Project Gutenberg site and open it in a real e-reader.

Used both the free and the paid versions. For 99 cents you are free from the pop-up. However, if you are unwilling to part with your 99 cents, you can continue to use the free version without limit, that was what I did in the past. But the paid version is actually cheaper since it requires no in-App purchase.
